I’m an EFL teacher with 25 years of experience with learners of all ages. I hold a BA degree in teaching English as a foreign language to young learners, and an MA degree in TESOL from Masaryk University in Brno, the Czech Republic. Throughout my career, I have worked in the private as well as the state sector of education. Currently, I am teaching English to students aged 11 to 19 at a grammar school in the Czech Republic.
I love thought-provoking discussions on ELT topics and education. I am passionate about social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and WordPress) and the plethora of possibilities they offer, and I am constantly seeking opportunities to develop professionally, especially through conferences, connecting with my personal learning network, and blogging. I am very proud that some of my articles have been published elsewhere too:
- Teaching is Measurable, ELT Rants, Reviews, and Reflections, July 2014
- Continuous Assessment, TeachingEnglish blog, July 2015
- No-prep Activities, TeachingEnglish blog, August 2015
- Teaching Teenagers: a Nightmare or a Challenge? The iTDi Blog, February 2016
- Go Light! The BELTA Bulletin, Issue 7, Spring 2016 (p.10)
- A Perspective That Might Surprise You, The BELTA Bulletin, Issue 9 Autumn 2016 (p.13)
- Speaking? Yes, please! Low-tech and low-prep activities which will get your teenage students speaking, ETAS Journal, Volume 35, No. 3, Summer 2018 (pp. 34-35)
- In September 2018, I was interviewed for the Garnet Education blog. You can read the post here.
- In March 2019, I wrote another post for the iTDi Blog called Teaching English in the Czech Republic.
- In September 2019, Ron Ragsdale, the managing editor of the EL Gazette, asked me to write an article for their regular column called “Out of the Box”, written by guest bloggers and people active in the ELT industry. The text is a shorter version of a post of mine called The Threat of Becoming Obsolete.

Blogging opened some more opportunities for me:
- In March 2017, for the first time in my life, I presented at the ILC International House Brno conference.
- In April 2018, I had the pleasure to be a conference reporter for the 22nd P.A.R.K. conference for English teachers in Brno, Czech Republic. You can read about my experience here.
- In April 2019, I presented at the 24th P.A.R.K. Conference in Brno. My topic was How teachers can benefit from reading and writing blogs. You can read about my experience here.

P.S.: I used to be on Blogger in the past, but I couldn’t resist the constant nudging from my fellow ELT bloggers to migrate to WordPress (hence the comments below). Thanks for stopping by. Enjoy reading!
Hello! It is strange and nice to see you here. Please expect a massive increase in comments form me, now that I no longer have the “blogger annoys me” excuse.

Hello, Hana. I have also been thinking about migrating to wordpress. Was it too much work to transfer your blog? All the best here, too!

Hi, Chrysa. No, it’s not really difficult. I followed the instructions I’d found here: http://www.labnol.org/internet/switch-from-blogger-to-wordpress/9707/ It looks daunting at first sight, but if you proceed step by step, you’ll manage. Try and if you come across any problems, let me know – I’ll do my best to help. I must admit that WP is more user-friendly indeed, plus it has lots of cool widgets Blogger doesn’t have. If you blog and read other blogs a lot, like me, it’s simply much more comfortable.

Thanks Hana! I’ll have a look and see what I can do with that.
